Oltre a fare il pescatore, vende anche frutta.

I Wayan Sember is 64 years old and lives in Kuta. He is married to Komang Seniwati and has 2 children. He started fishing in 2005, 17 years ago, when he joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang. He joined the fishing community because his parents used to take him with them to fish when he was very young. In addition to his occupation at sea, he also works as a LINMAS (community protection).

Si è unito alla comunità di pescatori perché i suoi genitori lo portavano con loro a pescare già quando era molto piccolo. Oltre alla sua occupazione in mare lavora anche come LINMAS (protezione della comunità).

Marco, 35 years old, is the captain of the "Nonna Maria." An experienced fisherman who has embraced the sea in every aspect of his life. Only those who truly love the sea understand how to protect it. Every day, Marco knows that his primary task at sea is to catch not only fish but also to collect plastic waste. That's why he is committed to remedying the mistakes made by humans.

Marco, 35 anni, è il capitano del "Nonna Maria". Esperto pescatore che ha fatto del mare la sua vita in ogni suo aspetto. Solo chi ama sinceramente il mare comprende come proteggerlo. Ogni giorno, Marco sa bene che il suo primo compito in mare è pescare non solo pesci, ma anche raccogliere rifiuti di plastica. È per questo che si impegna per rimediare gli errori commessi dall'uomo.

My name is Salvatore, I am 51 years old. The first time I went fishing, I was only six years old, together with my father, who was also a fisherman. I still remember that day as if it were yesterday, and the next morning, there was an earthquake. That was when I realized that the sea was my place.
What I love most about fishing is that every trip out to sea is an adventure, even when you don’t catch anything. It’s this unpredictability that fascinates me—you never know what to expect. But for the same reason, the sea must be respected because nature can be both our fortune and our downfall.
That’s why I care so much about cleaning up our coasts from waste.

Mi chiamo Salvatore, ho 51 anni. La prima volta che sono uscito a pescare avevo solo 6 anni, insieme a mio padre, anche lui pescatore. Ricordo ancora quel giorno come se fosse ieri, e la mattina successiva ci fu un terremoto. Fu allora che capii che il mare era il mio posto.
Ciò che amo di più della pesca è che ogni uscita in mare è un’avventura, anche quando non si prende nulla. È proprio questa imprevedibilità che mi appassiona: non sai mai cosa aspettarti. Ma per lo stesso motivo, il mare va rispettato, perché la natura può essere sia la nostra fortuna che la nostra rovina.
Ecco perché mi sta tanto a cuore ripulire le nostre coste dai rifiuti.

My name is Antonello, I’m 38 years old, and I’m a fisherman.
The sea has always been a part of my life: my father is a fisherman, and since I was a child, I’ve listened to his stories and experienced his days spent among nets and waves.
At first, I took a different path: I studied computer science and graduated.
But the sea kept calling me—louder every day—until one day, I decided to answer.

I left everything behind and climbed aboard, starting to fish alongside my father.
Today, I know I made the right choice.
Fishing is hard work, yes—but it’s real. Every day at sea gives me something: freedom, unexpected moments, and the satisfaction of a job you feel in your hands and in your heart.

Mi chiamo Antonello, ho 38 anni e sono un pescatore.
Il mare fa parte della mia vita da sempre: mio padre è pescatore e, fin da bambino, ho ascoltato i suoi racconti e vissuto le sue giornate tra reti e onde.
All’inizio ho seguito un’altra strada: ho studiato informatica e mi sono diplomato. Ma il mare ha continuato a chiamarmi, ogni giorno più forte. Finché un giorno ho deciso di ascoltarlo.
Ho lasciato tutto e sono salito a bordo, iniziando a pescare al fianco di mio padre.
Oggi so di aver fatto la scelta giusta.
La pesca è faticosa, sì, ma è vera. Ogni uscita in mare mi regala qualcosa: la libertà, l’imprevisto, la soddisfazione di un lavoro che senti nelle mani e nel cuore.

He loves the ocean so much that he created his own slogan that he always exclaims: "The sea has given us so much, let's not take it in the face!"

Leonardo aveva 15 anni quando ha iniziato a salpare i mari, ha trascorso più tempo in mare che sulla terraferma. 
Lui ama così tanto l'oceano da aver creato un suo slogan che esclama sempre: "Il mare ci ha dato tanto, non prendiamolo a pesci in faccia!"

Jorge ''Boquinha'' is 65 years old and has been a fisherman since 1989, completing 32 years in the fishing community.  Before becoming a fisherman, he worked at the shipyard located in Praia de Bancários.  In his free time, he likes to fish, drink beer, play football and play cards.  He is the father of 5 children and is married.  He loves the project, he thinks it's great and considering the fishing is not very good, it's great to be part of this project.

Prima di diventare pescatore, ha lavorato presso il cantiere navale situato a Praia de Bancários. Nel tempo libero gli piace pescare, bere birra, giocare a calcio e giocare a carte. È padre di 5 figli ed è sposato. Ama il progetto, pensa che sia fantastico e considerando che la pesca non è molto buona, è fantastico far parte di questo progetto.

Rodrigo, better known as ‘’Tecão’’, has been a fisherman for 20 years, lives in Praia dos Bancários, is single and has a 14-year-old daughter. In his free time he likes to drink beer and go fishing.

Rodrigo, meglio conosciuto come "Tecão" è un pescatore da 20 anni. Vive a Praia dos Bancários, è single e ha una figlia di 14 anni. Nel tempo libero gli piace uscire a bere una birra con gli amici e andare a pesca.

Ailton has 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He worked for 12 years in an airline company and is now the keeper of the fishing colony. In his free time he likes to tidy up and play dominoes.

My name is Antonio, I am 45 years old, and I am the most inexperienced fisherman here in the port, surrounded by colleagues who come from generations of fishermen. My story is different: I started fishing by chance after a career as a professional football player.
Everything changed the day my father-in-law took me fishing for the first time. It was an experience that fascinated me so much that I decided to leave football behind and dedicate myself entirely to fishing. Now, I have been doing this job for eleven years.
What I love most is the sense of peace and freedom that comes with working at sea—something unique and impossible to find on land.

Mi chiamo Antonio, ho 45 anni e sono il pescatore più novellino qui in porto, circondato da colleghi che provengono da generazioni di pescatori. La mia storia è diversa: ho iniziato a pescare per caso, dopo una carriera da calciatore professionista.
Tutto è cambiato il giorno in cui mio suocero mi portò per la prima volta a pescare. È stata un'esperienza che mi ha conquistato a tal punto da spingermi a lasciare il calcio per dedicarmi completamente alla pesca. Ora sono già undici anni che faccio questo mestiere.
Quello che amo di più è la sensazione di tranquillità e libertà che si prova lavorando in mare, qualcosa di unico e impossibile da trovare sulla terraferma.

Pasquale, 61 years old, is the captain of the "Marianna," the vessel where he and his brother carry on the fishing business passed down from their grandfather. In his childhood memories, Pasquale recalls that the sea appeared bluer, and this memory motivates him to advocate for and support the new generation in cleaning and preserving the marine environment.

Pasquale, 61 anni, è il capitano della "Marianna", imbarcazione con cui lui e suo fratello conducono l'attività di pesca tramandata loro dal nonno. Nei suoi ricordi d'infanzia, Pasquale racconta che il mare appariva più blu, e questo ricordo lo motiva a impegnarsi per sostenere la nuova generazione nel ripulire e preservare l'ambiente marino.

My name is Alfonso, I am 44 years old, and since I was a child, I have always fished with my father, Giuseppe, who himself grew up in a family of fishermen for generations. The sea and fishing are my passion, but unfortunately, both are being harmed by waste.
This is why I chose to collaborate with the Ogyre project, which is very close to my heart. In recent years, we have already achieved significant results, such as eliminating polystyrene from our boats. We decided to replace it with sustainable crates because polystyrene would break into tiny pieces that even ended up in the fish.
The sea is also showing signs of improvement: thanks to various cleanup initiatives, we now collect less waste in our nets compared to a few years ago when it seemed like there was more plastic than fish.

Mi chiamo Alfonso, ho 44 anni e fin da piccolo ho sempre pescato con mio papà Giuseppe, cresciuto a sua volta in una famiglia di pescatori da generazioni. Il mare e la pesca sono la mia passione, ma purtroppo entrambi stanno subendo danni a causa dei rifiuti.
Proprio per questo ho scelto di collaborare con il progetto Ogyre, a cui tengo moltissimo. Negli ultimi anni abbiamo già ottenuto risultati importanti, come l’eliminazione del polistirolo dalle nostre imbarcazioni. Abbiamo deciso di sostituirlo con cassette sostenibili, perché il polistirolo si frantumava in minuscoli pezzi che finivano persino nel pesce.
Anche il mare mostra segni di miglioramento: grazie alle numerose iniziative di pulizia, oggi raccogliamo meno rifiuti nelle reti rispetto a qualche anno fa, quando sembrava di trovare più plastica che pesce.

Oltre a pescare, gli piace far volare gli aquiloni, giocare a biglie e fare riparazioni meccaniche.

Marco was born into a large family, and his father was a fisherman. At the age of 6 he started fishing with him, looking between the rocks for octopuses. These fishing activities enchanted him so much that in third grade he mastered the skill of making nets.
At 15 he decided to embark for the first time, and he hasn't stopped fishing at sea since.

Marco è nato in una famiglia numerosa in cui il padre faceva il pescatore. Con lui ha iniziato a pescare fin da quando aveva 6 anni, andando a cerca di polpi. La manualità dei pescatori lo affascinava, tanto che in terza elementare già sapeva fare le reti.
A 15 anni si è imbarcato per la prima volta, e da allora non ha più smesso.

I Wayan Suarnata is 28 years old and lives in Denpasar. He is married with 2 children and has been a KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang member for 7 years. He became a fisherman to support his family and now collects marine litter to make the planet a better place for his childeren's future as well.

Known as “Tenebra”, Rogério is 55 years old and has spent more than 40 years of his life as a fisherman. Father of 5 children, he was born in Ilha Do Governador and now he lives in Praia Dos Bancários, where he is really enthusiastic about taking part in Ogyre’s mission.

Conosciuto come "Tenebra", Rogério ha 55 anni e ha trascorso più di 40 anni della sua vita come pescatore. Padre di 5 figli, è nato in Ilha Do Governador e ora vive in Praia Dos Bancários, dove con entusiasmo ha preso parte alla missione di Ogyre.

Francinaldo has 2 children and 1 grandchild. He has been a fisherman since 2000 and is very grateful for the project because it allows him to safeguard the ocean he fishes in.

I Wayan Wirawan is 47 years old and lives in Denpasar. He is married to Eka Ediawati and has 3 children. He started fishing 25 years ago and joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang in 2005, the local fishing community. Since he was a child he looked forward to spending his days at sea, so he decided to turn his passion into his occupation. In addition to fishing, I Wayan is a laborer in a construction site.

I Ketut Lodra is 52 years old, lives in Denpansar and is married with 2 children. He started fishing 9 years ago when he joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang. Becoming a fisherman allows him to support his family and at the same time protect his beloved sea.

I Made Suwastika is 41 years old and lives in Denpasar. He is married to Wayan Sutaryani and has one son. I Made Suwastika has been fishing since he was a child. Because of this, 20 years ago, he decided to turn his passion into his job and he also joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang, the local fishing community, in 2005. In addition to his work at sea, he is also a hotel security guard.

Proprio per questo, 20 anni fa, ha deciso di trasformare la sua passione nel suo lavoro e nel 2005 si è unito a KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang, la comunità locale di pescatori. Oltre al suo lavoro in mare, lui è anche la guardia di sicurezza di un hotel.

Wayan Pasek Pastika is 40 years old and lives in Kuta. He is married to Nyoman Rasmini and has 2 children. He joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang fishing community in 2005 because fishing has been his passion since he was a child. In addition to his occupation at sea, he also works as a gas station attendant.

Nel 2005 entrato a far parte della comunità di pescatori KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang perché la pesca è la sua passione già da quando era bambino. Oltre alla sua occupazione in mare, lavora anche come benzinaio.

I Made Suparta is 43 years old, lives in Denpasar and is married with 2 children. He started fishing 25 years ago when he joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang. Becoming a fisherman allows him to support his family, and marine litter collection is a way for him to ensure a healthier and happier future for them. 

I Made Suparta ha 43 anni, vive a Denpasar ed è sposato con 2 figli. Ha iniziato a pescare 25 anni fa, quando si è iscritto al KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang. Diventare pescatore gli permette di supportare la sua famiglia e la raccolta dei rifiuti marini rappresenta per lui un modo per garantire loro un futuro più sano e felice.

I Made Sudana is 40 years old and lives in Denpasar. He is married with Ni Made Indrantini and has 3 children. He has been working as a fisherman for 17 years and has joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang, the local fishing community, since 2005. He decided to join the Ogyre project because then, in addition to traditional fishing, he can protect nature by "fishing" for litter trapped in the mangrove forest. When, due to weather, he cannot go out to sea, he works as a driver in his hometown.

Ha deciso di far parte del progetto di Ogyre perché così, oltre alla pesca tradizionale, può proteggere la natura "pescando" i rifiuti intrappolati nella foresta di mangrovie. Quando, a causa del tempo, non può uscire in mare lavora come autista nella sua città.

Jussiara and the beginning of her lovely relationship with fishing dates back to the golden years of her youth. In this perspective, the sea has always been fundamental to her, becoming the window from which she could observe the world and grasp her main reason of life. 

L’amore per la pesca di Jussiara ebbe inizio negli anni d’oro della sua giovinezza. Il mare è sempre stato fondamentale per lei, a tal punto da essere la finestra da cui tuttora guarda il mondo e da cui trae la sua fonte primaria di vita.

I Made Purnawan is 49 years old and lives in Denpasar. He is married to Ni Wayan Arnasih and has 2 children. In 2005 he joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang, the local fishing community, because fishing has been his passion since childhood. In addition to his work at sea, he is also a taxi driver.

Born during the war, I learned the value of hard work and sacrifice at an early age. As a young man, I began my career as a factory worker in a metalworking plant in Naples. Over time, with determination and passion for my craft, I rose to the position of team leader and earned the title of highly specialized worker.
Later, I continued my professional journey in a refinery, where I led a team of workers for several years. It was an intense and formative experience, but deep inside, I always held onto a dream: the sea.
At the age of forty, with the savings of a lifetime, I decided to make that dream come true. I bought a boat and began a new life as a fisherman. Since then, whenever the weather allows, I go out to sea with my son Giuseppe, who chose to follow in my footsteps. Fishing has become not just a job, but a shared passion—a deep bond between father and son, and with the sea, which I have always felt is my true home.

Nato durante la guerra, ho conosciuto presto il valore del lavoro e del sacrificio. Fin da ragazzo ho iniziato la mia carriera come operaio in una fabbrica metalmeccanica di Napoli. Con il tempo, la determinazione e la passione per il mestiere mi hanno portato a diventare capo-squadra e a ottenere la qualifica di operaio superspecializzato.
Successivamente ho proseguito il mio percorso professionale in una raffineria, dove per diversi anni ho avuto la responsabilità di guidare una squadra di operai. È stata un’esperienza intensa e formativa, ma dentro di me è sempre rimasto vivo un sogno: il mare.
A quarant’anni, con i risparmi di una vita, ho deciso di realizzarlo. Ho acquistato una barca e ho iniziato una nuova vita come pescatore. Da allora, ogni volta che il tempo lo permette, esco in mare insieme a mio figlio Giuseppe, che ha scelto di seguire le mie orme. La pesca è diventata non solo un lavoro, ma una passione condivisa, un legame profondo tra padre e figlio, e con il mare che da sempre sento come casa.

Simone is 32 years old and he is the youngest among the fishermen of Santa Margherita.
During the week he goes out on the Felicina with his father, while on weekends he works in his small floating fry, "Il Pescitariano".

Simone ha 32 anni ed è il più giovane tra i pescatori di Santa Margherita.
Durante la settimana esce sulla Felicina con il padre, mentre nei fine settimana lavora nella sua piccola friggitoria galleggiante, "Il Pescitariano".

I Wayan Sudiasa is 42 years old, lives in Denpasar and is married with 5 children. He started fishing 10 years ago when he joined KUB Segara Guna Batu Lumbang. He became a fisherman because he chose to follow in the footsteps of his grandparents who also passed on to him a respect for the planet. This is precisely why he is very happy to be able to protect it by collecting marine litter.

Proprio per questo è molto felice di poterlo proteggere raccogliendo rifiuti dal mare.

Hann Fishing Community brings together people from the neighborhoods overlooking Hann Bay, such as Dalifort, Hann Maristes, and Pikine. These communities share a direct connection to the territory and experience the severe consequences of beach pollution on a daily basis. While most members are young workers and students, the community also includes elders and women, reflecting a diverse and intergenerational commitment. Deeply invested in the environmental well-being of their territory, they are dedicated to protecting, preserving, and revitalizing their shared coastal home.

La comunità dei pescatori di Hann riunisce persone provenienti dai quartieri affacciati sulla baia di Hann, come Dalifort, Hann Maristes e Pikine. Queste comunità condividono un legame diretto con il territorio e subiscono quotidianamente le gravi conseguenze dell’inquinamento della spiaggia. La maggior parte dei membri è costituita da giovani lavoratori e studenti, ma il gruppo si distingue per la sua eterogeneità, includendo anche anziani e donne. Si tratta di una comunità fortemente coinvolta nella causa ambientale, impegnata nella tutela e nella valorizzazione del proprio territorio.

Alair is 63 years old, he’s worked as a fisherman since he was 14, almost all of his life. In his spare time, he likes to take care of his fishing gear and make new nets. He has 3 children. He thinks the project is great for fishermen.

Alair ha 63 anni, è pescatore da quando ne aveva 14, praticamente da sempre. Nel tempo libero gli piace prendersi cura della sua attrezzatura da pesca e intrecciare nuove reti. Pensa che il progetto sia ottimo per i pescatori.

I Wayan Suletra is 56 years old and lives in Kuta. He is married to I Nyoman Ayu Mudiarta and has 2 children and 4 grandchildren. He officially became a fisherman 35 years old even though he and his parents had been going out to sea for many years before that. In addition to fishing, he also works as a janitor at the village office.

I Wayan Suletra ha 56 anni ed è di Kuta. È sposato con I Nyoman Ayu Mudiarta e ha 2 figli e 4 nipoti. È diventato ufficialmente un pescatore 35 anni anche se, insieme ai suoi genitori, usciva in mare già da molti anni prima. Oltre alla pesca, lavora anche come custode presso la sede del villaggio.

Luciano is 43 years old and has been a fisherman for about 30 years, he has been a fisherman basically all his life. In his spare time he likes to go for walks, he has two children and is married. He considers the project effective and wonderful.
